Fine Arts

Altered books, cardboard structures, ceramics, cupcakes and Linoleum prints and  are just a few student created projects in the Fine Arts classes.

In 2019 art classes worked with the African American Museum to create door art celebrating black history. From the Museum, "We decided to partner with Cedar Rapids Metro High School  to decorate our doors during March both as a way to celebrate Women's History Month and as a reminder that black history month should be celebrated and taught year-round". Art teacher Liz, students and the Museum staff discussed the basics of the project then each student designed a personalized poster. Read more about this art project here.

In 2014 Digital Art classes took on a special project for Metro's 40th Anniversary. Students interviewed current and former Metro staff and Metro graduates about their experiences at Metro High School. Students managed the audio and video set up and put together interview ideas. These interviews were uploaded to YouTube, and can be viewed here. Thanks to all the interviewers and interviewees for being a part of this historic project.
