LaVenia Carlisle won the District's Heart Healthy Bulletin Board Contest. Schools were invited to create a bulletin board celebrating February as Heart Health Month. LaVenia's board featured art work, healthy food choices and not so healthy food choices. The prize was a first taste of a new flavor smoothie, awarded to an elementary and secondary school today, February 28th, at lunch. Metro students and staff sampled Food and Nutrition's new smoothie flavor and guessed what the mystery flavor was. Amanda, Supervisor of Food and Nutrition, and LaVenia handed out smoothie samples.
There were many guesses: honeydew, tropical, citrus, strawberry. At the end of the lunchtime the new flavor was revealed: Strawberry Yogurt with Pineapple Juice, a winning combination. The new breakfast smoothie flavor will be at all buildings district-wide during National School Breakfast Week (March 5-9).
